Open Letter to Donald Trump... Mr. President, do NOT run again!

Mr. President, When you announced your candidacy in 2015, you were a novelty – a joke. But, the more primaries you won, the bigger the threat you became. To say your campaign methods were unconventional would be the understatement of the century. You couldn’t win. You were a fool, a boor, you had no experience. The Democrats heard you coming but they really didn’t see you coming. They knew you had no chance. Hillary had already measured the drapes, picked her cabinet and blew up the balloons. They were ready for “four more years”... no reason to start up the famous Democrat vote-fixing machine. The same machine that got JFK over the finish line in 1960 and kept major cities firmly under their control for decades. And then… you won. BAM! Like hitting a donkey up side the head with a 2x4 (metaphor intended), you got their attention.   You played the game to win. “But, but, but, he lost the popular vote” they exclaimed. So what? You won the Electoral College. Like in football, fi...

Small Town America - Dying A Second Time

A view of Kennett Square, Pa. “Mexicans are leaving, and that’s bad news for everyone,” an employer said. Credit Craig Warga/Bloomberg, via Getty Images A recent New York Times article about how immigrants are leaving small town America underscores the ripple effect of any immigration policy changes. The author continually uses the word "immigrant" to describe the individuals who are abandoning these rural towns. I can only assume that he is referring to undocumented aliens and not green card-holding guest workers. I actually feel sorry for these people, I truly do. The United States has done a gigantic head fake to these Mexicans and Central Americans. Since Reagan's 1986 amnesty program legalized approximately 3 million illegal immigrants, the US policy has been "talk loudly and carry a small stick". For two decades, the border remained porous and enforcement of labor and hiring laws was lax to non-existent. The past decade has seen increased enforcem...

Health Care or Health Insurance... What are we debating?

Image
I think that we Americans are in the middle of a HUGE kerfuffle, arguing and wasting massive amounts of time and emotional capital when we haven't even truly defined the debate. Hear me out on this. No more than 60 years ago, "all-you-can-eat" health insurance was practically unheard of. In fact, very few Americans had any form of comprehensive health insurance. There were various insurance and hospitalization plans available through work and kids could get some insurance for a few dollars while enrolled at school but most families "winged it" with medical expenses. During the 50s, 60s and early 70s going to the doctor was affordable. Most of us early baby boomers were born in hospitals and the payments came from our parent's pockets. During the 70s and beyond, more expensive medical procedures involving sophisticated surgeries, treatments and medicines evolved. Suddenly, the cost of health care ballooned. Instead of curing common diseases and treating...
